September Contest 2008

DR 2 X
in JO4Øql on 144.355 MHz

Maybe you remember the trouble we had in July with our permanent installed antenna system of 4x6ele. The return loss was just too high the we could not use it. After some discussions about a different antenna system, there was not too much time left till September. Thus we just replaced the dipoles and feeding network during a nice summer day in August. Maybe there will be some changes next year. Anyhow the antenna performed again very well.
In the pictures below you can see how we erect the mast which holds our 8x6ele yagis. Not an easy task to have an antenna with eight yagis vertically stacked. As we are trained for years now, it does not take too long till the antenna is up. As usually in September all our competitors are on the air. So far as usual, but something was different: usually we have very high QSO numbers but a low average distance per QSO. This time we stopped with 853 QSOs and 334km/QSO, which is a high average for our QTH but a very small number of QSOs. As you can see in the TOP 20 QSOs below there were some nice DXes but nothing unusual. I just wonder why we missed so many QSO-partners which were contacted by others....
The season in SSB is done for us, but we are looking forward to have fun in November's Marconi Memorial Contest!
