July Contest 2008

DR 2 X
in JO4Øql on 144.355 MHz

Everything seemed to be fine when we started to setup our antennas an Saturday morning. Around 12 o'clock we had the first signal on the air. But what did we see: The permanent installed 4x6ele DJ9BV yagis had a SWR of worse the 5:1. Half the power was measured as reflected power. The rest was probably lost on the cable? We have not found out what was going wrong because we had no equipment to reach the antennas. But there was an other option: We searched for spare parts and setup another group of 4x6ele DJ9BV. Just 40 minutes before the contest started everything was on its place and running. Activity was rather low at the beginning of the contest but more and more DX stations joined our log. There were a few nice ones from north Poland and even RK2FWA called us. Also activity in G was high as always in July when there is the fielday contest. We also enjoyed a quite large number italiens calling, best DX reached to JN72, not very common at our location.
To sumerize: Again a nice event at which we got a work-around for most of our problems.  Some work till September has to be done.
Thanks for everyone calling us!
