November Contest 2004

This years contest
season is over and we did really well! One of the highlights was of course
this contest. We recognized the increase of activity in the past years during
the Marconi Contest, but not with our operators. Was quite difficult to get
a crew together. Only being four people we decided to put up the big antenna:
8*6ele. As we knew the weather is very instable we hurried up and got it
up after only four hours. The rest of the rig was set up easily during the
rain inside the warm van! Being QRV 1,5 hours before the contest began gave
us a good startpoint for a clear frequency. It ran very well for the first
couple of hours. During the night it was from time to time really hard to
stay awake. You have to image we were only four and two of us were running
the station permanently. We organized shifts of four to six hours, but still
not much time to sleep. And it was the first really cold period. The water
of saturday's rain on the cars was frozen on sunday morning! Anyway we had
a lot of fun and enjoyed DXing. The highlight was Joel, F6FHP, from IN94.
It seems to work over 970km if conditions are slightly up. It is not the
first time we worked him, but do not forgett his impressive setup! Another
rare one was KN08 and JN05. Also nice to see were so many Gs in our log!
During most SSB contest the number is less than half.
As far as I can compare today we did a good job in Europe and hope to be
on the air next year again!
Thanks to everyone calling us during the past contests. Special thanks to
the DK0BN guys for always fair competing, and Wolfgang, DK9VZ, for hosting
our website.
Merry Christmas and
a happy contest season 2005!
