March Contest 2003

We were hoping from
mid February to the beginning of the contest weekend to have a chance to
get up our hill. Just one week before there were 50cm snow at our location.
The normal route to get up there was blocked with snow hills of 2m height.
No chance. As temperatures got warmer we could get up through an alternative
route. As you can see on the picture below we had to pull up almost all
cars by tractor. Happy to be up there again we putted up the antennas during
rain on saturday. Planning was optimal, we were QRV 30min before the contest
started. No changes were made in the rig. It did a great job without any
major failure. Activity at the beginning was amazing! 60QSOs in the first
30min, 105QSOs in the first hour. But in the end it seemed really pour!
Why is always everyone calling at the beginng?? There are 24 hours
of contest! Conditions were normal, lots of OKs were as usually in March
not on their hill. On sunday we put down the antennas during rain. A lot
of snow melted during the weekend.
We hope it will be
warmer in May!
