May Contest 2002

DK Ø TR
in JO4Øql on 144.355MHz

Another big event this year but the contest with the most water ever..... The first time we useed the new callsign  DK Ø TR. It's shorter so we hope to have more QSOs in the future (hi).  When we arrived on friday it was already raining for two days. You can imagine that there was a lot of mud! Really no fun. We just put up the tent and waited for better weather. On saturday morning there was only very little rain so we put up the antennas. On 2m we had 8 x 6 elements DJ9BV and 4 x 6 elements DJ9BV with us. For fun we did some 70cm with 4 x 15 elements Cudee. Just after the antennas were set up the rain got stronger again. After some smaller problems especially on the 70cm station what was set up like this for the first time, we were QRV in time. The first hour was really great on 2m: 102 QSOs but then a football match started :( . We were really lucky that the rain stopped just some hours before the end of the contest so we could take down everything easyly.
Conditions were normal. Activity was really good from time to time. Highlight was YT7P in JN94 with over 1000km. Major problem during the whole contest was the QRM-level. It was a lot worse than usual. Stations with a line of sight path making us really trouble. Once we even noticed that one of these station QSYed just 10KHz below our frequency. I guess our signal is tooo  good. Maybe we should use a 4CX250b with some grid current? Also on 70cm we had trouble. Some from our own 2m station. Antennas were too close together.
Nearly the whole team was together. Let's look forward to the July contest. Because of several being on holiday we will be only QRV on 2m then.
