Alpi Adria Contest 2002

DK Ø TR
in JO4Øql on 144.355MHz

Nearly whole Europe plays contest on the first weekend of August. Traditionally we have fun beeing on the hill and playing around with our rigs with no contest stress and very little QRM. Because of the contests in the countries around us there are some DX-stations active. On saturday we installed a four bay array of 11 element yagis on the van to have a high gain array with a small beamwidth. It should be a test for the comming September-contest because we had lots of trouble with QRM of others in the past three contests. It was up really fast. Our experience was a very sharp beamwidth and nearly the same gain as our 4 x 6 element. It should have 3dB more! But it was some meters lower, maybe that is the reason. Hope we are successful with it in September. Conditions during the whole weekend were not really exciting. The contest in France gave us some rare squares into the log but nothing new. On sunday we took part in the Alpi-Adria-Contest. Most of the time only looking for DX-stations, so we made quite a high average QRB. During the afternoon we recogized a spot on the cluster form JO50 to JN71. Searching the band but nothing here. Later we copied I2ADN/7, but no QSO. In QSO with DH9NFM (in JO50rf) we could copy a station from JN71su with 55 but it was the QRG of DH9NFM. Calling CQ in this direction had no success. After calling CQ we scanned the band at 15:30UTC again. But no siganls anymore, only I2FAK still calling "CQ contest". Asking him how long the contest last: 17UTC. A few minutes later we met S53CAB from the S50C crew. He told us the contest was over at 15UTC. A bit confusing.  As I remembered from the past years it stopped at 17UTC. Maybe a new rule....
After a nice weekend with lots of sunshine, beer and chatting we arrived well back home. We look confidently forward to the next high light: IARU region 1 contest in September.
